Fisher Price Rainforest™ Melodies & Lights Deluxe Gym™

Product #: K4562
Research:
When it came time to consider what type of toys we would purchase for our baby, we decided that a play gym was high on the priority list. We were on a flexible budget so most models were in the running.
IKEA, LEKA Baby Gym:
One model in particular we looked closely at was the IKEA LEKA baby gym. The asking price of $49.00 however does not justify what you get. It is a plain round mat with cushion trim with no imagination or colourful characters or design printed on the mat. The blue arches are simple and effective but are rather dull. The 5 toys suspended from the blue arches are basic in shapes and colour, but this would suffice for a 1-3 month old baby. I found IKEA LEKA baby gym to be too basic and expensive for the asking price of $49.00. $25.00 is a much fairer price in my opinion.
Fisher Price, Rainforest Melodies & Lights Deluxe Gym:
We decided on this model only because of the many and varied features and soft toys. My partner and I both agreed that it is very bright and full-feature with all the materials, patterns, lights, sounds and toys enough to stimulate the senses of a baby.
We purchased it through Babies Galore for $109.95 which is on the upper end of the price scale for baby play gyms. (Can be purchased cheaper from online retailers).
Warranty

What's in the box?
The play gym mat, 4 leaves, 5 toys, 1 half of an arch with the giraffe with hanging mirror being the other. Also included was the instruction manual. No batteries were in the packaging.
Assembly:
The entire play gym was inside a thick plastic bag with a helpful carry handle on top. Once removed from the plastic covering I noticed the gym was mat, arches and toys were tied by string to a cardboard backing that wrapped underneath the unit protecting it quite well, while allow Fisher Price to show of the gyms features to potential customers
Assembly was quite simple with just a quick glance at the manual to be 100% sure.
The arches are in three separate pieces.
- half arch or tube
- the Giraffe half arch or Giraffe tube
- full arch or Butterfly arch
The arches click in to place and butterfly arch locks into the bottom of the lights and sounds dome on the very top of the arch.
The play mat has button holes at each corner where the arch ends have giant buttons. It’s a simple matter of fastening the buttons. Also very handy to unfastened and wash the play mat should the need arise.
Installing the batteries requires sliding up of the soft giraffes body, to access the battery compartment. It could have been easier with a click release battery cover but Fisher Price opted for a screw cover. One will need a Phillips screwdriver to install the batteries.
