Shintaro Wireless Media Center Keyboard

Shintaro Wireless Media Center Keyboard
Product code: SHKEYMCE

Research:

I recently purchased a Panasonic 37” LCD TV which I had aspirations of connecting a spare PC I had, which would turn it into a basic and simple HTPC (Home Theatre Personal Computer).  The purpose of it was to connect to my home server and stream movies and TV programs to my TV, via the HTPC.

After successfully connecting a PC to my HDTV (High Definition Television).
I had a few criteria that I wanted to meet:

  • Wireless remote control of PC
  • Not have to leave the chair
  • Can turn on the PC via a remote
  • Can browse the Internet
  • Can access my home storage server wirelessly
  • Can run and control my media remotely
  • An all-in-one unit
  • Work with an Open Source Operating System like GNU/Linux

A few contenders sprang to mind like the Microsoft MCE keyboard, Logitech diNovo Edge and Mini.
Prices for these units are quite costly but the Logitechs do look very stylish.

After some research and reading what others had done who had gone before me, it was decided that the Shintaro Wireless Media Center Keyboard was the one for me.  Price versus good reviews from users was the deciding factor.
I purchased it online after locating the best deal and price possible, through Plus Corporation (http://www.pluscorp.com.au) located in Sydney for $59.00.

Communications with Plus Corporation was quick and direct, and I was speaking with a customer service representative in moments, with no computerised voice system. Staff were very helpful in choosing the right shipping deal.  I choose $15, 3Kg Express Post with $1.18 insurance.  (Although couriers and Australia Post are very good, things do go missing occasionally).

All up the cost totalled: $75.18
2 days later it was hand delivered to my door.
